Tips

Tips

    Posted by yanwei | June 10, 2009, 3:42 am

只有继续走下去, ’step by step, one step at a time’。

    Posted by yanwei | June 10, 2009, 11:01 pm

  7. Interesting narration :) . Am yet to experience such arduous trekkings that take more than a week to complete. And in harsh, mountainous, cold conditions! You are one tough cookie! These are priceless experiences to have, despite having to be careful with your budget then. (Most new grads are like that, anyway)

As for me, i think i will just stick with the ‘tamer’ destinations (to Yangshuo & Guilin in mid Sept – if the H1N1 flu doesn’t become a global pandemic by then! Btw, nice scarf (like the colours :) ). And yes, the indispensable Lonely Planet books. Never backpack/travel without one! Its HQ is in Melb (Hawthorn) too. :)

    Posted by Anon | June 11, 2009, 8:25 am
    • Anon, I wish I am a real ‘tough cookie’ ! Though in most girls’ eyes, I am a much tougher woman, I don’t care if I need to shower everyday, I don’t mind if I have to live in harsh conditions. Yet, in Ed’s eyes, I am still a ‘burden’ to him when we go hiking, heehee ;) So, now it is summer here, I am determined to get myself in shape. Though I don’t know when is our next big hike yet, I am craving to do one soon ! Once you are close to nature, you will get ‘addicted’ to it !

Wow !! Yangshuo and Guilin !! I had been there before !! Yangshuo is a backpackers’ heaven. When Ed and I were there, I saw an Aussie’s pub! I think, they show AFL games on TV ;) So, go look for it, you will see a lot of very familiar Oz stuff there. However, when we were in Yangshuo, there was a notice for a plan of building a giant underground shopping center. We were so disappointed because it was such a lovely small town with amazing Karst peaks, but with the big shopping it will just make it look like another commercial place. Nonetheless, I am not sure if the giant shopping centre is built, I can’t find the info online, so will be awaiting your most up-to-date info :)

Ummm….Re: H1N1, see how you go. When I went in 2000, it was at the peak of Bird Flu !! Hahaha…I still went but did not dare to eat any eggs and chicken at all. Yet, H1N1 is human transmitted diseases, better be careful, keep an eye. Hope things will get better then.

Hey, want to be a guest blogger here for your Yangshuo and Guilin trip ??? Think about it, you can write in English, I can translate. It will be fun ! :)

If I can finish writing my Nepal travel posts soon, next will be China’s. Hopefully, will be before you go!

      • Hi Shirls,
Your modesty & humility with regards to your backpacking experiences & roughing-it-out threshold is humbling. Honestly, very few Asians are willing/or able to tackle rough-terrain trekkings. As for what you interpreted as ‘a burden’ in Ed’s eyes, it was probably his expression of affection! Btw, is a blogging greenhorn like me worthy of being a guest blogger? Hope i won’t frighten away your fans! :D . Just wondered yesterday in my comment here, if the H1N1 Flu would turn into a pandemic. And from this morning’s news, it has been officially declared as a pandemic by WHO! A high chance I may have to shelf my travel plans again.

Actually, my initial travel plan destinations were New York, Boston, Washington & Toronto (was also thinking of including an inpromptu ‘hi’ in person to you (& Ed) over a cuppa, while here). When the US & Canada were declared flu zones, I decided to change to Yangshuo & Guilin. And this time, everything has been finalised & paid for! Yet again reinforced in me how unpredictable life’s events can be. Guess, i would most likely have to just let my imagination do the travelling, with the aid of your travel posts on Yangshuo & Guilin! :)

        Posted by Anon | June 12, 2009, 9:36 am
        • Yeah, I know, declaration of pandemic for the first time in the last 40 years ! Worse than SARS. I was surprised. And I was even more surprised there are so many cases in VIC. Yet, I think will be ok, just a precaution. See how things go. Take care.

The pharmacies must be so busy selling face masks there?! I remember my experiences selling lots of, lots of masks during SARS time, we weren’t even affected that much, but families were buying face masks to be sent back to Hong Kong and Asia, because they had run out of masks there. Poor things. And eventually, there was one short period, Australia was out of masks too. Not sure what’s the situation now. Hope things are more under control this time.

Aiya, anyone can blog. The whole thing about blogging is about personal experiences. And we just exchanging travel experiences here :)

Ah, thanks for thinking of us. New York and Boston should be very nice. I am hoping to go there, only if we have money left after Europe trip ! It is so expensive to travel in Europe !

Hopefully by then, the swine flu will settle down. Otherwise, no worries, travel with me in this blog :)

    Posted by yanwei | June 11, 2009, 10:49 am

      Dinner竟是parma ham with melon,加红酒!!

Posted by 雪芬 shirls | June 11, 2009, 11:06 am

    Posted by yanwei | June 12, 2009, 3:01 am

Posted by 雪芬 shirls | June 12, 2009, 10:07 am

    Posted by yanwei | June 12, 2009, 3:03 am
