Hi Jenni,
Thanks for sharing more about Shanghai with me.
it is true. Many perceptions of Shanghai or other things are from media or sometimes from our own judgments which sometimes ( or most of times ) are not accurate.
Happy Belated Valentines' Day to you ! :)

Here comes a Shanghainese, it's true that only Shanghainese are allowed to drive the taxi in Shanghai,i think that's for the safty issue . Chongming is a part of Shanghai, it used to a county, now it is a district of Shanghai.
Thanks Shirls for bringing us such a warm story. Shanghaiese look down on the people from countryside? it was maybe true many years ago, just like when i was first time in Singapore about few years ago, some people asked me: are you happy in Singapore? you are so lucky to be here, have you ever seen such a modern place before? .... i can understand why they said so, coz they never got a chance to know China, what they had been told by the media was not 100% true.
anyway, Happy Valentine's day!

Well, only Shanghainese are given the license to drive the Taxi, maybe he is the relief driver for the Shanghainese main driver. Anyway, I feel nice also listening to your stories, as many honest people are earning very hard to make a living.

Next time, try the Magnetic Rail train, which cost only RMB40 per person. Only 7 minutes from Airport to Long Yang Road Subway/Train Station. From this station can take subway, just cost RMB4 per person to Nanjing Road.

Well, I heard that most crime are money crime. Pick pocket, con job, stealing. Lesser of those sex crime like rape and molest. I heard from the local people, men can fulfill their sexual gratification by just paying a small sum, compared to the punishment of the crime. Hence not much of those crime happening. Most murder crime are usually passion crime, involving relationships.

Well, hence Shanghai is safe, but watch out for pick pocket !!

Wow ! I did not know that you can opt not to pay if receipt is not given, and police will arrive within 5 minutes.

Knowing all these, make me wonder what's wrong with Malaysia.... Or probably most of the 变态 news in China are censused by the government?

Well, I personally thinks that it is safer in Shanghai than in Malaysia. In Shanghai, all the Meter Taxis must on the meter. And if the Taxi Driver don't give you the receipt or on the meter, you can opt not to pay.

Further more, Malaysia's 变态 crimes are a lot more than Shanghai, by the ratio of population. In Shanghai, very seldom heard of rape cases.

In Shanghai, at least a Policeman will arrive at the scene of emergency within 5 minutes after phone call.

Well, there are many honest people earning honest living in Shanghai, but sometimes those people who lucky to get rich fast and early tends to be very "sombong".

Interesting and warm story. Like reading Liu Yong's article.
The best part is, no conclusion, no judgement, leave that to the reader.
Consider writing a book? :D
